"If you talk to the animals
They will talk to you
and you will know each other.
If you do not talk to them,
You will not know them,
And what you do not know
You will fear.
What one fears one destroys."
- Chief Dan George

About Us

In 1993, Gary and I (Trish) Zimmerman began working with wildlife.  As volunteers, we worked with another rehabilitator learning how to care for troubled birds and mammals.  Gary took a course in Wildlife Rehabilitation at Genesee Community College (GCC) and then took his New York State Wildlife Rehabilitation Examination.  As an RN, I began working with Gary and later took the wildlife examination.

In 1994, we began building large outdoor cages and turned our barn into a triage room for critically sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. We are now both Class II rehabilitator's; have New York State Licenses and a Federal Migratory Bird Permit.

In October 2001, we were awarded the De Witt Clinton Masonic Award for Community Service with recognition from the Town of Riga and the Town of Ogden.

On April 29, 2005 we were granted non-profit corporation status and Black Creek Wildlife Station, Inc. was established.

What we do:
1. Admit injured, orphaned and sick wildlife
2. Assess the animals’ problem
3. Establish a plan of care
4. Enlist the help of our veterinarians (if needed)
5. Follow through with the intent to release back into the wild.
